Growing with Eisteddfod

This month started off with a huge task! Earlier in the year we approached the chair of the flower committee at Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod and asked them if they would switch to using locally grown flowers for their iconic floral stage decorations. The floral chair was really keen for this to happen, the festival had wanted to move in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly direction for a while. We went back to base to think about how on earth we were going to grow enough flowers to meet this huge order…. We needed help!

Calling upon our network of trusty flower growers, we coordinated a relay at the crack of dawn… starting at a farm in Anglesey and ending at my farm near Ruthin. I delivered the huge order to the Eisteddfod field ready for their team of amazing volunteers to do their magic. They have people of all ages working on the floral displays and they are truly epic proportions. It was an honour to have been a part of making this happen.

We have been marketing our pretty little flower jam jar gifts ready for the end of the school term, these make such a perfect gift for teachers.

The campanulas were a buzz with bees, such as fantastic sight to see and hear. Campanulas are a key source of pollen for bees and other pollinators and it is such a joy to see them at work.

A personal highlight for me this month has been getting the plot planted up, no easy task but with some help, lots of back breaking work and some very dirty fingernails, we got there! It has been so rewarding to see so many flowers spring to life. I thoroughly enjoyed picking armfuls of Achillea (this month's favourite flower) after trying to grow it for years with little success.

The selfie frame made a 2nd appearance at the Royal Welsh and I was shocked as well as very pleased to hear my name called out as the Agri Academy challenge winner.

To finish off and absolutely glorious jam packed month, I created the floral displays for E&C’s wedding at Pentre Mawr, one of my favorite wedding venues. What a joy filled day!

Next month we will be taking part in a wedding photo shoot… we can’t wait to share the results

Garden tasks - Make sure your annuals have plenty to support them, and keep them upright when it rains, you can use simple stakes and twine
